The Do’s and Dont’s of Decorating
Posted by Sarah Harrington on
We know how stressful decorating can be so here we have put together a Do’s and Dont’s list to try and help make things easier for you.
A good idea is to use this list as a sort of “Pre-decorating check list” Get organised and get ready before starting to do any decorating.
Do
-
Do make any structural changes or re wiring before you start any of the decorating.
-
Do be aware that the colour you choose to use in one room will affect others around it.
-
Do create a budget.
-
Do test out samples of wall papers and colours before making the final decision, stick them up on your walls or paint patches. This way you can get a real feel for the colours and patterns before committing to anything.
-
Do try out test paint pots on different areas in the room so you can see them in carrying light.
-
Do add texture and pattern to the room, this makes the room interesting.
-
Do select a signature colour.
-
Do use decent quality brushes.
Dont’s
-
Don’t make guesses - Measure, compare and consider before you buy anything.
-
Don’t mix and match colours before testing them together first (Always buy sample pots first)
-
Don’t rush or hurry, take your time and it will be worth it.
-
Don’t be impractical.
-
Don’t ignore details.
-
Don’t feel like you have to buy everything at once.
-
Don’t use more than 3 colours in your colour scheme.
-
Don’t forget to heck how your colours sit on the colour wheel.
Print out this list and a colour wheel, keep a copy of it with you when out shopping or planning to buy – It will come in handy I promise!
